Iggy Azalea Loses Best Rap Album at the Grammys!

When the Grammy nod was given to Iggy Azalea for Best Rap Album people lost their shit! How can this be? That’s not real rap?

Although Emenim won the award I wondered why everyone was so angry at her nomination? Here are my thoughts on why the Hip Hop community among other hardcore music lovers were pissed.

Hip Hop from the beginning has always been about lyrical truths and the exposure of an individuals lifestyle. The genre has noted itself on honest music. The beauty of the music is its stories. The poetry in motion gives these artists the ability to relate to their masses. The Hip Hop community will fact check an artist quickly because of its foundation.

Maybach Music frontman Rick Ross raps about drugs and money but was later exposed as being a correctional officer turned rapper. 50 Cent among others have used this information to decrease his creditability. The expression and mannerisms through Hip Hop must be true to the emcee.

Iggy Azalea rapping voice is not true to her background. I am aware that anything creative is influenced by other matters that be but we express them within our own voice. When people hear Iggy Azalea it’s like she is acting or portraying someone she may have seen on Aussie television.

Female Mc’s like Eve and Rah Digga have explained they don’t like her accent through music because it isn’t true to her. Her rehearsed accent and nursery rhymes over pop records hardly qualifies as Hip Hop music. Artist who rap whether black or white have a lane.

There have been other artist from other areas of the world influenced by our culture who rap in their own voices. Monie Love, Slick Rick, among others who have made quality music without altering their voices. I think if she was more true to her Aussie roots people would accept her more.

Eminem won because he raps within his truth. He is from the hard city of Detroit, had a baby too young, and had a dysfunctional relationship with his parents. The Marshall Mathers LP gave us a very clear picture of that.

The Hip Hop community accepted him because his lyrics reflected his life through his own voice. Although Iggy didn’t win she is probably happy about it. The media would have dragged her over that Grammy win. She would’ve been able to enjoy it. My advice to her is show people who the real Iggy Azalea is and start laying down tracks about Aussie life.

Just because your on Grand Hustle doesn’t mean you have to try to be TI or of his culture. I think we should reserve our opinions until she spits a 16 in her natural voice. If she doesn’t the disagreements will continue.
