R&B Divas: I Love It!

TV ONE REALITY SHOW

Last night was the premiere of R&B Diva’s. Let’s just say that is exactly what everyone on this show is. The show consist of Faith Evans who was the first lady of R&B at Bad Boy record and the ex-wife of the Notorious B.I.G. Faith’s personality on the show seems cool, calm, and collected. She is also joined by Syleena Johnson, Keke Wyatt, Nicci Gilbert (Brownstone), and Monifah Carter. The premise of the show is that Faith wants all of the ladies to come together and make an R&B record. Faith got this idea when they all seen each other at Kelly Price’s Pre-Grammy party. This was the party were the late Whitney Houston did her last performance before her unfortunate passing.

Monifah and her Girlfriend

In the first episode it shows Faith living in the same building as the late Heavy D’s protegé’ Monifah Carter. As the show progressed you definitely see the closeness in their friendship verses everyone else. Monifah then reveals that she is gay and in a committed relationship with a woman from New York. Monifah also shares about her drug addiction to cocaine and how she didn’t want to live until about two years ago.  Carter is best known for the 1990’s hits “Touch It” and “I Miss You”.

Then we were introduced to Keke Wyatt who has five children and is pregnant with her sixth. Keke is best known for her feature on Avant’s “My First Love” remake. She is now married to a pastor named Micheal who she doesn’t allow to have any male or female friends. Wyatt’s husband goes everywhere she goes due to her trust issues from her previous relationship with her ex-husband. Wyatt was also involved in a domestic violence incident where she stabbed her first husband repeatedly back in 2002. The first episode surrounds her baby shower and the other girls coming together to throw it for her on short notice.

The Diva’s

While making the plans Syleena Johnson advises Wyatt’s husband that he needs male friends. She then explained that she would love to have girl time with just them. Johnson is best known for working with R.Kelly and her hit “Guess What”. Johnson and her husband moved from Chicago to Atlanta for a fresh start in her music career. She explains to Nicci Gilbert that she is having money trouble and they are looking for a home. Gilbert is an actress but is best known for being in the successful 1990’s group Brownstone. Gilbert says in the show that she doesn’t have the passion for singing the way the others do. She feels more passionate about being an actress more than singing. Her story is still developing. The previews on the next week’s episode when the women go to the studio the producer will have a heart to heart and find out what is blocking her passion. It also shows Monifah’s daughter who is not willing to accept her mother’s lifestyle. In my opinion the show has started off successful and I enjoyed watching their lives. I can’t wait to see what’s to come. It is a must see. It comes on TV One at 10pm on Sunday night.  You can watch it right after Single Ladies which I think is wack but hell there is nothing else to watch at 9pm.
