J. Cole Said Jay Z told Him To Get That Shit Outta Here! (VIDEO)

J. Cole was being interviewed on Big Boys Neighborhood talking about his experiences before getting famous. He explains a run in with Alicia Keys as a teen and his first time meeting Jay Z with his music. Cole has a new CD called “Born Sinner” which in my opinion sounds a lot like Mos Def for lack of better words Yaslin Bey. Although it has Mos Def’s influence the album is still very good.

J. Cole speaks on how important it is to encourage other unsigned artists in music. He said the first time he met Jay Z, he stood outside for over three hours in the rain with these beats he had made for his American Gangsta album. He said he was in shock that he was in the presence  of someone he idolized and he found it hard to speak. He managed to get the words out of what he wanted from Jay by saying “Hey Jay here are these beats for your album American Gangsta.”

Cole said Jay Z gave him the cold shoulder and said “Man what are you doing? Get that Shit Outta Here! Give it to one of those guys!” Cole remembers how upset and disappointed he was when he was faced with his idol and how he was treated. Today he says he was glad Jay Z treated him that way because he knew he wasn’t going to get into the music business that way.

Although he learned from the experience he did say when other artist come up to him with their CD’s he does take them. He says he never refuses music because he feels that gives them the confidence to keep making more music. Cole also added in the same breathe “I am way too busy to listen to them but at least I take them.” I don’t know how much it helps them now knowing that he doesn’t listen but just takes it.

Here is the Clip from the interview and pick up Born Sinner!
