As The World Twirls: The Skorpion Show Vs Justin J

So about the other night…

Justin J and Kevin

As boredom visited my mood and Frasier became the soundtrack to my Sunday evening I received a call from a lead. On this call I got a tip that some shady activity was happening on popular YouTuber Justin J’s channel. If you aren’t aware of who he is, let me sum it up. He does television/pop culture reviews. However, when angry he can be seen wearing a black v-neck t-shirt to curse your ass out swiftly and professionally. You see what I did there? Lol!

Prior to this video, marketing material was dropped from both The Skorpion Show/Sweet Addictions TV (The Blackout)  and Justin J (The Main Event) about their two separate events in Atlanta. This is when viewers became confused due to Justin J being on the panel of Kevin/Candy’s event last summer. Well, Justin J took to the small screen to explain to the Jays why he wouldn’t be attending 2016’s Blackout event.

Apparently there was a bit of issue during the planning process for both parties. Justin J explained in his video that he didn’t like the choice of venue, who was handling the money (Candy of Sweet Addictions TV), and the overall treatment of him during the planning portion of the event. He also made reference to the relevancy of the people who were organizing the event and the lack of fairness during the discussions. Justin J didn’t say any names but one could reasonably speculate who he was referring to. At the end of his video he wished all who organized the Blackout much success but he would like to do things on his own.

Kevin of the Skorpion show caught wind of Justin’s video and then uploaded his own. If you aren’t aware of whom Kevin is from The Skorpian Show let me fill you in. Kevin and Makel are two young men out of Philly who made their YouTube channel popular by also doing pop culture reviews. They ultimately turned their channel into an all access pass to some of your favorite celebrities by interviewing them. They have interviewed celebs such as Tweet, Brandy, K. Michelle, and Tamar Braxton just to name a few.

However, in The Skorpion Show’s thirty-six minute long video Kevin expressed that he gave Justin the opportunity on numerous occasions to speak his mind and he didn’t. He also said that Justin was never shut out and that he didn’t like how he was shaded by him via Periscope in regards to an unfortunate house fire his family was involved in. He ended the video by saying he doesn’t want to be around people like Justin but he wishes him the best in an event he declined to go to.

Here are my thoughts on the matter, I think the YouTube platform is hard enough for us to be successful in as it is. As black content creators we are responsible for the visuals we put forward and I must say we need to do better. I know that viewers are attracted to gossip and confrontation but it’s never worth it. They have both built some great platforms and I think that it would be better used to promote more positive black imagery other than the art of shade. I know that Kevin has been invited by YouTube to represent our people and be a shinning example of what we can do when we have control of our art. I hope they both know how important it is with every upload that we make that we are exposing the world to a new idea and concept.

An idea that we aren’t messy, shady, or angry but unified. We all have such a huge responsibility now that we can control how we are seen to the rest of the world. I hope eventually they are able to put this aside and be what we need. Positive examples of Black media. At the end of the day that is all that truly matters. Even if they can’t work together, let’s hope that one day that they can find it in their hearts to let God and let go.
